Page scope
Denmark is the Country page for Denmark. It covers hemp in the Iron Age retting pits and lake sediments; the Danish name of the plant, its place among the crops of 1912 and the wartime crop; hemp in the herbals, floras and herbaria from 1648; the act on euphoriant substances of 1955, the penal-code section of 1969 and the changes from 2004; Christiania and the Pusher Street market to its closure in 2024; industrial hemp, medical cannabis, potency, seizures and the present penalties; and the one seed line named for Denmark. The tables of growing regions, growing areas, accessions and news fill from pages that name Denmark as their country.

Discussion
Sources and how they were read
- Andresen and Karg (2011) was read in full in a copy hosted by Ringkøbing-Fjord Museer. Which sites yielded hemp, and their dates, are from the paper's Table 1 and its site descriptions; the paper names the hemp pollen at Kragehavegård "Cannabis-t (hemp-type)" and does not say how hemp was told apart from hop.
- Rasmussen (2005) was read only in its abstract; the setting of Dallund Sø on Funen is from the abstract of the companion paper by Rasmussen and Bradshaw (2005).
- Kalkar's Ordbog til det ældre danske Sprog was read in its online edition; its source abbreviations were not expanded.
- The land-use census of 1912 (Statistiske Meddelelser, 1914) counts hemp with spurrey, caraway, rape and flax; it gives no figure for hemp alone.
- The wartime crop is known here only from a Swedish government bill of 1961 (no. 49), which reports the Swedish Board of Agriculture's account of Danish soft hemp.
- Paulli's Flora Danica (1648) was seen in the Project Runeberg scan, but its entry on hemp could not be found in the character-recognised text of the registers. The page gives only its imprint and the use made of it on Gotland in 1702, from Pettersson (1948).
- Herbarium specimens and flora records are from GBIF occurrence data (genus key 2984538) on 14 October 2026: 88 preserved specimens with country Denmark, 68 of them at NHMD (herbarium C) with the locality "Dania" and no date or collector; the dated sheets at UPS, CAS, TRH, LD, S, CMN, MO and H. The four flora records are in the dataset Danish 19th Century Regional Floras. The 129 observations are in the Atlas Flora Danica dataset; the habitats are the recorders' words.
- Laws. The consolidated act LBK 1334/2019, the order BEK 405/2026, the acts of 2017, 2021, 2024 and 2025 and the bills of 1968 (L 133) and 2004 (L 175, as adopted) were read on retsinformation.dk and folketingstidende.dk; the bill of 1968 is a scan with errors of character recognition. The act of 1955 and its amendment of 1965 were not read; their numbers and dates are from the bill of 1968. Lov nr. 445 of 2004 as promulgated and lov nr. 526 of 2007 were not read; the change of 2007 is given from Moeller (2009).
- The prosecution guidance (Anklagemyndighedens Vidensbase, Narkotika, version of 1 April 2026) was read in its printed form. Its fine table applies to offences after 1 July 2025; the older rates were not read.
- Christiania. Asmussen (2007) was read in the Transnational Institute's copy of the chapter; Moeller (2009) only in its abstract; Houborg and Møller (2021) only in their abstract. The founding of 1971 is from Danmarkshistorien (Aarhus University), the closure of 2024 from TV 2 Kosmopol, the clearing of November 2023 from the Copenhagen police's announcement of 20 November 2023, and the penalty zones from the Ministry of Justice's release of 19 December 2023.
- Houborg and Vammen (2012), "Hashbekymringer 1965–1969", was not read; the page cites it only through the country report of Nygaard-Christensen and Frank (2019).
- Potency. Rømer Thomsen et al. (2019) was read in its abstract, Moeller and Lindholst (2014) in full, and Freeman et al. (2024) on the publisher's page.
- Seizures are from the national police table of hash seized by year, 2000–2025, which tabulates hash but not marijuana or plants, and from the annex tables of the European Drug Report 2026.
- The seed line is described from the seller's listing, as on its accession page.
Where the sources differ
- The police action of 2004. Asmussen (2007) has the stalls of Pusher Street removed in March 2004 with 50 dealers and lookouts arrested; Moeller (2009) dates a raid to 16 May 2004 with 60 dealers and helpers arrested. Whether these are one action or two is not settled by the sources read.
- Pusher Street's age. Asmussen dates the market from the mid-1970s and, elsewhere in the same chapter, calls it more than 30 years old in 2004.
- Freeman et al. (2024) was published online on 21 May 2024 and in the issue of March 2025; the page cites the issue.
Not used, and why
- Wartime hemp areas of 1940–1942 (40, 520 and 1,770 hectares) given in an opinion column of 2016 in LandbrugsAvisen: the column names no source, and the figures conflict with the Swedish account of at most 100 hectares a year.
- Landbrugsstatistik of 1959–1962: the volumes have a column for hemp, but the extracted text could not be read reliably.
- The CND vote of December 2020. The European Union's statement after the vote was made on behalf of 26 member states, Denmark among them. It does not show how Denmark voted, and no roll call was found.
- The Wikipedia article on cannabis in Denmark: a tertiary source.
Open questions
- When hash came to Denmark is not dated by the sources read; Houborg and Vammen's chapter on the years 1965–1969 is the likely source.
- Cannabis before list B. When cannabis was placed on list B of the order, and where it stood before, was not found; the order of 2021 already has it there.
- The answers of the Folketing to Copenhagen's requests for a hash trial (2014, 2016, 2019) were not reached.
- Hemp before 1912 and after 1945. No figure for hemp alone was found for any year before 2024; the area of 2024 is preliminary.
- Germplasm. No genebank accession of Danish origin was found; Genesys could not be searched.
- Greenland and the Faroe Islands are outside the act of 2025 and Denmark's ratification of the 1988 Convention; their own cannabis law was not researched.
