Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The labels give the province, the year and the collector. They name no habitat, use or note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of each sheet (NAS00290141, 981 × 1,440 pixels; NAS00290143, 990 × 1,440 pixels).
- NAS00290141 (printed 國立中央研究院自然歷史博物館植物標本室 / Herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Academia Sinica, Nanking, China., typed): CANNABIS SATIVA Linn. / Locality Hopei / Herb. No. blank / Det. by blank / Coll. H. F. Chow / Date 1930. Tag with a purple stamp in two columns, blurred: 靜[?]生[?]生[?]物[?] / 調[?]查[?]所[?]. HOPEH province stamp; East China station stamp; red 089259.
- NAS00290143 (printed 靜生生物調查所植物標本室, right to left / HERBARIUM OF FAN MEMORIAL INSTITUTE OF BIOLOGY, typed): Fd. No. blank / Herb. No. blank / Cannabis sativa L. / Collector H.F.Chow / Loc. Hopei / Determined by blank / Date 1930. The same stamped tag. HOPEH province stamp; East China station stamp; red 089249.
The two readings agree, and both take the tags' stamp, with doubt, for the Fan Memorial Institute's.
Georeferencing
No point is given. The finest place the labels name is the province, Hopei (Hebei); they name no place within it. The province field takes Hebei.
Editorial treatment
Two sheets, one accession. The sheets share the collector, the province, the year and the Fan Memorial Institute's tag, and neither carries a number, so nothing on them separates two gatherings or proves one. The page takes them as one gathering. The repository and catalogue number are NAS00290141's.
Title. The labels give no number, so the title takes s.n. (no number).
Collector. The collector field keeps the labels' H. F. Chow. The Harvard botanist index lists an H. F. Chow, Chow Hang-fan, as a collector in Hebei, with one gathering counted for 1930, but gives no dates; no other source on him was found. The name is not linked.
Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
