Identifier

The accession identifier is CBG-PAK-KHY-0120120001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment CBG stands for Cannabiogen.
  • Province segment KHY is for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the province Chitral lies in, as on ACE-PAK-KHY-0120120001. The listing names Chitral, not the province; the province is a gazetteer fact.
  • Year 2012 is the year of the earliest dated document found that lists the line: the regular-seed listing for PCK in packs of ten, captured by the Wayback Machine on 4 December 2012 (http://www.cannabiogen.com/semillas-regulares/pakistan-chitral-kush-pck-x10.html). No source gives a collection year, so, as for other vendor accessions without one, the identifier takes the first attested year. A Wayback Machine capture shows when the archive saw a page, not when the line went on sale, so the year is a lower bound and moves if an earlier capture or catalogue is found.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.

Sourcing

Cannabiogen's own pages, read from Wayback Machine captures: the regular-seed listing of 4 December 2012 (type, flowering time and yield only), the feminised listing of 31 January 2013 (same fields), the feminised listing of 10 June 2013 (an English-section page carrying the full Spanish description used in the article) and the home page of 24 April 2021.

Every statement about the line is the company's account of its own stock and is attributed to it. No collector, farmer, collection site or collection date is named, and no independent source for the line's origin was found.

Typing

  • Classification: Landrace. Cannabiogen's listing says that the line is "proveniente de Chitral, en el Hindu Kush paquistaní", from Chitral, a place it calls famous for its hashish, and that it was selected and reproduced over more than five generations while keeping a wide genetic diversity, so it is not treated as an inbred line. The company's account of its collection says that most of its lines came from "original landrace stock, cultivated in their respective lands for generations" (see Cannabiogen). The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the company's account, which names no valley, village or date. The account has not been checked against other sources. An earlier version of this note classified the line as Other, on the ground that a vendor listing does not establish the class of the source population.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. The listing gives no chain of custody from the source population to the seed on sale.
  • Accession type is left empty. The listing says the line was "seleccionada y reproducida durante más de 5 generaciones", but no source names the collection it reproduces, so the page is not typed Reproduction and carries no parent accession.
  • Cultivation status: Unknown. The company's home page still offered seed in April 2021 and only its Delta nutrient range in May 2022 (see Cannabiogen). That says nothing about whether anyone still grows the line.
  • Traits. The flowering times, aromas and effect in the infobox are the company's figures.

Other lots of the line

ACE Seeds sells a Pakistan Chitral Kush, documented as ACE-PAK-KHY-0120120001. Its listing reused Cannabiogen's text and credited Cannabiogen with breeding the line; ACE's own catalogue is attested from 10 May 2012, earlier than the first capture of Cannabiogen's listing found here. Both identifiers take 2012. No source says that ACE's seed is a lot of Cannabiogen's stock, so neither page names the other as its parent.

Archived versions

Regular seed (packs of ten) captured on 4 December 2012; feminised seed (packs of three) on 31 January 2013 and (packs of five) on 10 June 2013. The home page of 24 April 2021 offers feminised PCK seed in packs of one, three, five and fifty.

Georeferencing

No coordinate is asserted. The listing's "proveniente de Chitral" can mean the town of Chitral or the former Chitral District (OpenStreetMap relation 11361949, now split into Upper and Lower Chitral), and nothing in it says which. The province is too large for a province-level point.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The listing gives nothing about the size or status of a source population.
