Evidentiary scope
The field slip records the plant as cultivé par les noirs (cultivated by the Black people) at La source, and the museum's label adds Culti: a crop grown by named growers at a named place, in 1848. Drug-type cannabis from different regions began to be cross-bred, and its seed carried into old growing areas, in the 1970s (McPartland and Small 2020, pp. 84–85), so a hybrid origin is not considered for a sheet gathered in 1848. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the labels. The sheet does not show what became of the crop or whether its seed survives, and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from GBIF's cached copy of the museum's image of P06780607 (1600 × 2474 pixels); the page states only what the two readings agree.
- Field slip: Cannabis / cultivé par les noirs. / La source / a letter (read B. and β) and 1107.
- Museum label: printed HERB. MUS. PARIS. / handwritten Cannabis / printed Ile Bourbon. handwritten Culti / printed M. Boivin. 1848. / printed No. handwritten 1107.
- Determination slip: handwritten Cannabis sativa L. / printed DET. handwritten W Marais / 1981.
The second sheet, P06780609, has not been read: its image could not be retrieved.
Georeferencing
No point is given. La source resolves to more than one place on Réunion in OpenStreetMap: a suburb of Saint-Denis named La Source (node 1613146145), a locality of the same name in the south-east of the island (node 61766175) and a beach (node 4005416240). The label does not say which is meant, and no other place is named.
Editorial treatment
Two sheets, one accession. The second Paris sheet carries the same collector and number; it is treated as part of the same gathering. The infobox takes P06780607's values.
Wording. The label's les noirs is quoted and translated as the collector wrote it; the page does not use the term in its own voice.
Collector. The label gives M. Boivin; the catalogue gives Boivin, L.H. for the second sheet, and the collector field takes the catalogue's initials.
Country. The island is entered as Réunion, its present name.
Source discrepancies
- The catalogue dates the second sheet to 1847–1852 and gives it no locality; the first sheet's label gives 1848 and La source.
Sources not yet read
The second Paris sheet (P06780609): its label may carry the field slip's place and note again.
