Page scope
Angus Pretty is a biography of a living seed collector. It covers his public work only: his collecting, The Real Seed Company, the seed he has given to the National Plant Germplasm System, and what he has said in interviews, podcasts and posts. Its accession table lists the accession pages whose collector field reads Angus, which reaches this page through the redirect Angus.
Sourcing
Nearly everything known about him comes from him or from his company. Discuss attribution, independent sourcing and any of his claims the article states without attribution here.

Sources

  • GRIN-Global, the database of the USDA National Plant Germplasm System. His cooperator page lists the 190 cannabis accessions of which he is the source. Each accession page gives the date the genebank received the seed and, for most lots, a donor narrative in his words, sometimes lightly edited by the curator. The places and seasons of his own collections come from those narratives. They are his statements about the seed, not findings of the genebank, and the article gives them as his. On some lots of the 2023 and 2024 consignments the collector line of the source history repeats the donor's name, so the article takes collecting claims from the narrative text and not from that line.
  • The Real Seed Company's blog (therealseedcompany.com), posts from 2019 to 2025. The posts are unsigned. Several name him in the third person. Others are written in the first person by the guest of podcasts that the third-person posts name as his. The post of 1 August 2022 announces a CANNAMANtv episode its writer recorded with Conor, and the post of 16 August 2024 names Angus as Conor's guest. The post of 8 May 2020 announces a Curious About Cannabis episode its writer had just recorded, and the post of 5 December 2019 names Angus as that podcast's guest. Those first-person posts are given as his. The posts on the 2007 trip to Pakistan do not name their writer, so the article gives that trip as the blog's account.
  • RSC's About page, for his founding of the company and the 2007 date it gives for its trading.
  • The Breeders Syndicate episode page on Spreaker gives the episode's title, show and date. Its description carries no content about the conversation.

None of the sources is independent coverage of encyclopedic weight. The genebank pages are third-party publication, but their narratives are his own words.

Name

GRIN-Global gives his name as "Pretty, Angus" and heads his cooperator page "Angus Pretty". RSC's pages and the accession pages use "Angus". The title is the full name. Angus redirects here, and the accession pages keep Angus as the collector.

Source discrepancies

  • Who sold the Mazar-i-Sharif seed in 2007. The donor narrative for G 33740 says he bought it in Peshawar from "an Afghan merchant". RSC's post of 16 August 2024 says he acquired it from "an Afghan charas smuggler". The article uses the narrative's wording.
  • Who gave the seed. GRIN-Global names him in person as the donor. RSC's post of 3 June 2025 describes more than 140 of the accessions as donated by The Real Seed Company. The article gives both.

What the sources do not say

  • None of the sources gives a birth date or a nationality.
  • RSC's post of 29 August 2024 credits him with a ganja landrace from Bokeo but gives no year of collection.
  • The narratives date most collections by season or year only. Highland Lao #1 is dated "c. 2019".

Left out of the article

  • The genebank's donor entry gives a town of residence for him, and the company register lists the officers of the company that owns RSC's website. Neither appears in the article: they are private details of a living person, outside his public work.
  • The interview he gave Grassyou.com in 2019 opens with his first encounters with cannabis. That is personal history and is left out for the same reason.
