Evidentiary scope
The label places a cannabis plant at the paper village of Hanoi in September 1908 and states that it supplies hashish. It does not say whether the plant was cultivated, who used the resin, or where. The note is the collector's and is reported as his. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read from Naturalis' image as relayed by GBIF's image cache (1081 × 1920 pixels; the larger 2000-pixel copy in the same cache is an enlargement of this one).
- Collector label (stamped heading, handwritten): HERBIER de Ch. d'ALLEIZETTE / Cannabis indica Link (the last word uncertain: Link or Lamk) / Tonkin : Hanoï, village du Papier / Sept. 1908 / Fournit le Haschich ! / stamp CH. D'ALLEIZETTE.
- Leiden labels. HERB. LUGD. BAT. No 950.213 590 with the stamp Gesublimatiseerd; a barcode slip Nationaal Herbarium Nederland L 0815773; a violet stamp 200640; a typed slip CANNABIS SATIVA L.; barcode L.1592668.
The catalogue's Papin is a misreading of the label's Papier.
Georeferencing
The coordinate, 21.05, 105.81, is OpenStreetMap's point for Kẻ Bưởi (21.0520, 105.8090), rounded to two decimals. The label's village du Papier is read as Bưởi, the paper-making village on the West Lake: Vietnamese Wikipedia gives Route du Village du Papier as the French name of the road that led to it. No place named Papin was found in any gazetteer. The point stands for the village, not for a collection site in it; SRTM gives 12 m there, and the label gives no altitude to check it against.
The province field takes Hà Nội, the municipality, which carries no Province suffix.
Editorial treatment
Title. MediaWiki capitalises a title's first letter, so the particle is dropped from the title (Alleizette s.n.), while the article, the descriptive name and the collector field keep d'Alleizette. The place takes the Vietnamese form Hà Nội; the label's Hanoï stays in the locality field and in quotation.
Collector. The label's stamp reads Ch. d'Alleizette, and the collector field takes C. d'Alleizette. The Harvard botanist index gives him as Aymar Charles d'Alleizette (1884–1967); the prose links that form with the name he used, Charles.
Date. The label gives the month only, and the infobox stores 1908-09.
Source discrepancies
- The catalogue reads the locality as village du Papin; the label reads village du Papier.
- The catalogue leaves out the note Fournit le Haschich ! and the original determination Cannabis indica.
