Discussion
Identifier
The accession identifier is AFP-ZAF-UNK-0120090001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Holder segment
AFPstands for Afropips. - Country segment
ZAFand province segmentUNK. See "Country" below. - Year 2009 is the year of the earliest dated document found that lists the line: the menu of the business's website, archived on 13 April 2009, whose pure African section has a page called "DURBAN POISON" (http://www.afropips.moonfruit.com/pureafricans/4511419431). The Durban Poison page itself was never archived. The business's Malawi Gold page of August 2004 has a photograph captioned "D.Poison Stick." (http://afropips.moonfruit.com/malawigold), but no page of 2004 or 2005 offers Durban Poison seed, so the year is not taken from it. No source gives a collection year. The year is a lower bound and moves if an earlier listing is found.
- Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
- Sequence 0001. It is the only accession of the business for this country, province segment and year.
Sourcing
The business's own pages, read from Wayback Machine captures: the menu of 13 April 2009 and the Malawi Gold page of 12 August 2004. Its description of the line on SeedFinder (https://seedfinder.eu/en/strain-info/durban-poison/afropips-seeds) was read on 12 October 2026. Every statement about the line is the business's own account of its stock and is attributed to it. The business's Power Malawi of 2009 was a cross with a "Durban Poison based Pure Power Plant (IBL)", which SeedFinder credits to Nirvana Seeds; that is not this line and has no accession.
Country
The business's description names no place: it says only that the line was "selected from the potentest Durban Poison Sticks/Pencils". The country is the reading of the trade name Durban Poison as Durban, South Africa, as on HCG-ZAF-UNK-0120210001. A trade name is not a collection place, so no province is entered. SeedFinder's lineage tree files the line under KwaZulu-Natal; that is the database's own classification, not the business's, and is not used.
Pondo Power
In August 2004 the business's site had a page headed "PONDO POWER" whose only text was "Transkei ......" (http://afropips.moonfruit.com/pondopower). It offered no seed and described no plant, and no later page uses the name. Nothing ties it to Durban Poison, and it has no accession.
Typing
- Classification: Other. "100 % Pure Saitva" is the business's claim and is attributed in the article, with its spelling marked.
- Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. The description says that the line was selected from Durban Poison sticks, but gives no chain of custody from a source population to the seed on sale.
- Accession type is left empty: the description does not say whether the seed on sale was the selected seed or a reproduction of it.
- Cultivation status: Unknown. The business's shop was still online in June 2012 (see Afropips). That says nothing about whether anyone still grows the line.
- Traits. The flowering times and the effect in the infobox are the business's own descriptions.
Figures as written
The description gives "Flowering: 90 -120 days of 12/12". The infobox flowering fields take weeks: 90 and 120 days are 12.9 and 17.1 weeks, entered rounded as 13 and 17. "Indoors: (Veg 0-10 days for 5 - 6 ft plant)" is reported in the article and not entered in the height fields, because it describes one way of growing the plant.
Georeferencing
No point is given. The only place connected with the line is Durban, and it comes from the trade name Durban Poison, which names a market label, not a place where the seed was grown. The description names no other place.
Conservation priority
Not rated. The listing gives nothing about the size or status of a source population.
