Strey 10031 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Berea in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on 1 November 1970 by R. G. Strey. The KwaZulu-Natal Herbarium (NH) holds the sheet as NH0069356-0.[1][2] The National Herbarium (PRE) holds a second sheet as PRE0372445-0 and the Naturalis Biodiversity Center a third, WAG.1455357, which carries a free image.
Collection and locality
Durban's entry gives the date as 1 November 1970 and the locality as Berea. Plot next to police station.[1]
What the Naturalis label adds
The Naturalis sheet carries a Natal Herbarium, Durban card headed FLORA OF SOUTH AFRICA, with the grid reference 2930 DD Pietermaritzburg, the region Natal, the collector and number R.C. Strey 10031, the date 1/11/1970 and the note Berea, plot next to Police Station, ruderal, herb. The word ruderal is the label's own assessment of the plant, and it does not survive into either South African catalogue.[2]
Specimen and identification
All three sheets are filed as Cannabis sativa. Durban and Pretoria add the autonym var. sativa.[1][2]
