EBC 43433 is an artefact catalogued in the Economic Botany Collection of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew: ropes from Japan, which Kew files under the plant name Cannabis sativa and the use MATERIALS - Fibres.[1] It was entered at Kew in 1893, with J. H. Veitch as donor.
The catalogue entry
The catalogue gives the artefact name and the parts held as Ropes, the plant name as 153.04 CANNABACEAE Cannabis sativa, the use as MATERIALS - Fibres with the user Man, the country and the geography description as Japan, the storage as Bottles, boxes etc, the entry book number as 180.1893 and the donor as Veitch JH. The donor number, donor date, collector, collector's number and collection date fields are blank.[1]
Kew's help page defines the entry book number as a number given to each group of specimens at the point of acquisition, in a series that runs each year, and says the donor field is used when specimens have passed through a second person or institution.[2] The same entry number and donor are recorded for Ropes of hemp, Rope (Kew EBC 43422).[3] Kew also publishes the entry to GBIF, with the locality Japan.[4] No image of the ropes is published.
