Hopar Valley General Population 2022 is a landrace cannabis accession from the Hopar Valley, Pakistan, listed as Hopar Valley in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies it as a Karakoram landrace and describes it as Indica-type.[1]
Geography
RSC places the landrace in the upper Hopar Valley in the Karakoram region of northern Pakistan, which it notes borders Kashmir, Xinjiang and the Hindu Kush. It gives a latitude of about 36° N.[1]
Collection Details
The listing gives the sourcing as Landrace Genetics, Hopar Valley, Karakoram Range, Pakistan (2022).[1] The Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[2] gives the same sourcing.[3] Neither listing names a village or farmer. Both sell the seed at a discount because it comes from the winter 2022 harvest and its viability may have dropped below 80 per cent.[1][3] According to RSC, many plants showed purple colouring at the time of collection.[1]
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purposes as charas (sieved resin), culinary seed and bhang (coarse flower and leaf), and the harvest as late September through October. It lists outdoor, greenhouse or indoor growing.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC gives a height of about 2 metres and expects large plants likely to grow beyond 2 metres in good land.[1] Kwik Seeds, and versions of the RSC listing from March 2023 to April 2025, give 1 to 4 metres.[3][4][5] RSC lists mostly broad leaflets, resinous plants and frequent purple or black colouring, with large plants and buds.[1]
According to RSC, the plants do not fit neatly into the Indica-type and Sativa-type taxonomy of McPartland and Small. It suggests that this may be because they come from near the interface between Central and South Asian cannabis and are Indica–Sativa hybrids.[1] Both listings classify the line as Cannabis sativa subsp. indica var. afghanica.[1][3] RSC names its Hunza Valley line as a similar accession.[1]
Aroma
RSC describes aromas ranging from earthy spice to sweet funk and rotten roadkill, which it considers mostly Indica-type.[1]
