Pokhara General Population is a seed accession of cannabis seed bought in Gorkha, Nepal, held by the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) as G 33754. Angus donated the seed, and the system received it on 22 August 2023.[1] Despite its name, the donor's note says the seed was bought at a bazaar in the town of Gorkha, where seed is sold legally as food, and that the seller gave Pokhara as its origin.[1]

Collection Details

From the seller's answer and the look of the seed, the collector took it to be a Himalayan multipurpose landrace. According to the note, the plants grown from it showed instead the traits of a ganja landrace, grown for seedless or lightly seeded flower heads; in Nepal, it says, ganja landraces of this kind go with the warm lowlands such as the Terai, around Makwanpur and Manakamana. A further note by the donor says the seller said the seed was from the mountains, and that the donor bought more seed in Gorkha and nearby Manakamana, where the seller said she had got it.[1]

Origin

In a note of 28 November 2025, the donor suggests that the line was probably brought to Nepal from the Bengal region, likely from around the Surma and Barak valleys of Sylhet, and that its use for seed and charas is a recent development in Nepal, the line having been grown only for ganja before.[1]
