Hai-cheng District General Population 1906 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from the Hai-cheng district of Liaoning, China, on 12 February 1906 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 17528.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]

The lot

The department's printed inventory lists the lot as hemp that the Chinese magistrate of the Hai-cheng district sent through Thomas Sammons, United States consul-general at Niu-chwang, received on 12 February 1906. Sammons's note reads "Manchurian fine thread hemp seed".[2] A lot that Frank N. Meyer had from Sammons in May 1906, also from Hai-cheng, refers back to this one (NPG-CHN-LIA-0519060001).[3]
