Moll 5521 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Gwaleweni Forest in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on 18 October 1971 by Moll. The KwaZulu-Natal Herbarium (NH) holds the sheet as NH0069357-0.[1][2] A duplicate at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, WAG.1455356, names a second collector and records the plant as cultivated.
Collection and locality
Durban's entry gives the date as 18 October 1971, the locality as Gwaleweni Forest. and the altitude as 609 m. It names one collector, Moll, and records a second, Nel, in its additional-collectors field.[1]
What the Naturalis label adds
The Naturalis card gives the collectors as Moll & Nel, the number as 5521, the date as 18/10/71, the altitude as c.2 000ft and the note Gwaleweni Forest. Forest. Cultivated herb in small forest clearing. The statement that the plant was cultivated, and that it stood in a clearing inside forest, appears on the label and in neither South African catalogue.[2]
Specimen and identification
Both sheets are filed as Cannabis sativa. Durban adds the autonym var. sativa.[1][2]
