Maximowicz s.n. is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered at Yokohama, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, in 1862 by Carl Johann Maximowicz on his second journey. The Naturalis Biodiversity Center holds the sheet as L.1592626.[1]
Collection and locality
The printed label reads Ex herb. horti bot. Petropolitani. and Maximowicz. Iter secundum. (from the herbarium of the St Petersburg botanic garden; Maximowicz, second journey), with the plant's name in ink and the printed place and year Japonia. Yokohama. and 1862. It gives no day, month or number.[2] The catalogue gives the same collector, place and year.[1] The heading says that the sheet was distributed from the St Petersburg garden's herbarium.
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries one branched stem crowded with narrow, curled leaves on short side branches, with an empty paper capsule beside the label.[2] The name Cannabis sativa L. is written on the label without a determiner's name, and the catalogue files the sheet under the same name.[2][1]
