Leschina s.n. is a herbarium accession of cannabis gathered on a weedy place near the dairy farm of the Shcherbakov state farm, in the Ubagan raion of the Kustanai Oblast, today's Kostanay Region, Kazakhstan, on 27 July 1956 by D. Leschina, and determined as Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. The Moscow University Herbarium holds two sheets, MW0818738[1] and MW0818739.[2]
Collection and locality
Both sheets carry the same hand-written label: Cannabis ruderalis Janisch., Кустанайская обл., Убаганский район, совхоз им. Щербакова. На сорном месте близ молочно-товарной фермы. (Kustanai Oblast, Ubagan raion, the state farm named for Shcherbakov; on a weedy place near the dairy farm), 27/VII-1956 г. and Собр. Д. Лещина (collected by D. Leshchina), with the determiner's signature in blue ink after Опр. (determined).[3][4] A pencilled Коноплевые (the hemp family) stands above the name. The catalogue gives the collector as D. Leschina, the date and the locality for both sheets, and N. Kaden as the determiner, with no point.[1][2] The Ubagan raion is the name that today's Altynsarin District of the Kostanay Region bore from the 1930s; it was abolished in 1963.
Specimen and identification
The first sheet carries one tall, leafy plant with its roots; the second, a tall stem with its roots and a leafy branch.[3][4] The label names the plant Cannabis ruderalis Janisch.; the catalogue files both sheets as Cannabis sativa L. No later determination slip is on either sheet.[1][2]
