Fenzel 2369 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at a place its label calls Chow Kung Ling, in Hsien Yang (咸陽, Xianyang), Shaanxi, China, on 4 September 1934 by Fenzel. The Northwestern Institute of Botany in Yangling holds the sheet as WUK0072840[1].
Collection and locality
The label is printed for the herbarium of the Forestry Department of the Northwestern Institute of Agriculture and Forestry, Sian (西北農林專科學校), each line in English and Chinese, and completed by hand: the number 2369, the family Moraceae (桑科), the name Cannabis sativa L., the locality Hsien Yang and 咸陽, the date Sept. 4, 1934 and the collector Fenzel. The line printed for the habitat holds a name, Chow Kung Ling, and the line for remarks is blank. A red oval stamp of the Shaanxi Provincial Agricultural Improvement Institute (陝西省農業改進所) sits on the label, and a tag tied to the plant repeats the number 2369.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year and Shaanxi.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a tall stem with its root and dense, leafy fruiting branches of narrow leaflets. The label and a determination slip name the plant Cannabis sativa L.; the slip is signed with initials and the surname Pai.[2] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
