Fang 9123 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in Sichuan (then Szechwan), China, on 13 September 1930 by W. P. Fang. The Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nanjing holds the sheet as NAS00290126[1].
Collection and locality
The sheet carries a label of the herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Academia Sinica, Nanking, with the printed line Flora of Szechuan, completed by hand: the collector and number W. P. Fang 9123 and the date Sept. 13, 1930, with the locality left blank. A stamped tag on the stem repeats the date, 13 SEP. 1930.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year and Sichuan.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a large female branch system, its long, narrow, serrate leaflets crowded among dense clusters of achenes. The label names it Cannabis sativa Linn. and 大麻 (dama, the Chinese name of cannabis), determined by C. Pei.[2] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
