Delicorganic is the name used by a collector and breeder of Greek cannabis seed. The genotyping company Phylos Bioscience lists Delicorganic in Greece with two varieties, Greece - Kalamata Red and Cretan-Greece.[1] The Real Seed Company (RSC) and its second shop Kwik Seeds name Delicorganic as the source of three lines they sell as Cretan, Kalamata Red and Arcadian.[2][3]

Delicorganic has posted on the cannabis forum International Cannagraphic Magazine (ICMag) since 2015, in English and Greek, about searching for local seed in Greek villages, maintaining the lines by open pollination and producing inbred lines from them.[4][5] In 2020 Delicorganic wrote that uncontaminated seed stocks of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s are more accurately classed as Greek heirlooms than as landraces.[6]

Collections

In July 2020 Delicorganic posted a list of "the greek heirlooms/landraces that i ve collected in the last 12 years".[5] The post describes collecting in detached villages and on mountainous islands. It says that seed offered by urban growers who claimed to hold Kalamata Red or Cretan was deliberately not collected.[5] It lists nine collections:[5]

  • three seed stocks of Kalamata Red, described as "alagonian bud" and dated 1999, 2001 and 2005, one of them with at least 37 years of local cultivation;
  • two seed stocks of "Cretan-mylopotamos Sativa", dated 1998 and 2002, with at least 25 years of local cultivation;
  • seed from Pyrgos in the Peloponnese;
  • "Arcadian hashplants" from Tripoli, with 25 to 30 years of local cultivation;
  • seed from the island of Syros;
  • two genetically identical seed stocks from the island of Ikaria, with at least 15 to 20 years of local cultivation;
  • seed from "Olympos mountain", with ten years of local cultivation;
  • seed from Pertouli in Trikala;
  • seed from Melivoia in Larissa.

The same post says that Kalamata Red and Cretan had already been made into open-pollination seed stocks and were in their second year of stabilisation. It estimates that none of the collections exceeds 13 to 15 per cent THC.[5]

Accounts of the Kalamata Red and Cretan seed

Kalamata Red

In October 2015 Delicorganic described a sativa, grown for the second time, as coming from southern Greece near the city of Kalamata. A post of 18 October 2015 says its seeds "came from kalamata peloponnisos".[4] A Greek-language post of 20 October 2015 attributes the seed to an old grower with no access to modern hybrids and gives its area of origin as the southern Peloponnese.[7] A post of 22 October 2015 says the seeds "probably came from pelloponisos".[8]

In September 2016, opening a Greek-language thread on traditional local varieties, Delicorganic wrote of still wondering, after years of searching for local seed, whether the Kalamata and Cretan varieties existed.[9]

In January 2017 Delicorganic opened a thread on the line. It was archived in April 2018 under the title "Greek red landrace" and is now titled "Greek kalamata red".[10][11] The opening post says that the plants' high and appearance were very close to "the mythic kalamata red", which Delicorganic had smoked a few times before 2002. A reply the same day calls the line "not a random landrace" and says that it has a "strange and very promising story".[11]

Delicorganic's July 2020 list dates three Kalamata Red seed stocks to 1999, 2001 and 2005.[5] RSC's listing gives the sourcing as "Delicorganic, near Messinia, Kalamata, Greece (2004)". It says the seed came from a farming family in the Kalamata region "15 years ago", whose village had grown the line for more than 30 years.[12] The Landrace Team, which also sells the line, names the village as Alagonia in Messenia, at 800 metres above sea level. It says the family grew the line for up to 25 years.[13]

Cretan

RSC's listing says the Cretan seed was collected in the early 1990s in the mountains of Rethymno on Crete.[14] The oral history on Phylos's Cretan-Greece page, written in the first person plural, calls the line a "cultivar from the 90's".[15]

In a Greek-language post of January 2017, another member described holding local Cretan seed from the area of Mylopotamos. Replying, Delicorganic asked about the variety's genetics and wrote of never having smoked the Cretan "κοκκινόφουντα" (red-bud).[16] Delicorganic's July 2020 list dates two "Cretan-mylopotamos" seed stocks to 1998 and 2002.[5]

Breeding

In November 2019 Delicorganic wrote of having worked on Kalamata Red for a few years. After another outdoor open-pollination project, the stated aims were to stabilise the quality of the high, the hashy terpene profile and adaptation to very hot climates, while removing intersex plants and low yields.[17] In February 2020 Delicorganic reported testing the second generation of an indoor inbred-line reproduction of Kalamata Red. Five to six per cent of first-generation plants showed intersex traits indoors, with a stated target of below three per cent.[18]

In April 2022 Delicorganic reported first cannabinoid analyses of Kalamata Red, Cretan and Arcadian, giving THC of 8 to 12.6 per cent, CBD of 0.1 per cent and THCV at 0.15 per cent.[19] In July 2026 Delicorganic wrote that the relatively low THC of the Greek lines, with THCV and CBC at comparatively high levels, "is now well established".[20]

Genotyping

In January 2017, answering a suggestion to send material to the Phylos Galaxy genotyping project, Delicorganic wrote that nothing had been sent yet.[11] In March 2017 Delicorganic wrote that "a sample for phylos is already on the way".[21] In a Greek-language post of November 2018, Delicorganic wrote that Robert Clarke had recently uploaded the famous local variety of Kalamata to the Phylos Galaxy, together with local varieties of neighbouring countries.[22]

Phylos's genotype report for Greece - Kalamata Red names Delicorganic as the submitter and gives a test date of 22 October 2018. Its report for Cretan-Greece gives a test date of 17 May 2021. Both reports give a genetic novelty score of "uncommon".[23][24] The oral history on the Kalamata Red variety page reads "Submitted by Robert C. Clarke, collection and breeding by delicorganic". It carries the same account as RSC's listing of a farming family in the Kalamata region "15 years ago".[25] A copy of the page archived on 26 August 2019 shows only "Submitted by Robert C. Clarke" under the oral history.[26] The account is present in the copy of 17 January 2021, which names the variety's source as "greco seeds/Delicorganic".[27]

Distribution

RSC's listings give Delicorganic as the source of all three of its Greek lines. The Cretan sourcing line names no place or year; Kalamata Red's reads "near Messinia, Kalamata, Greece (2004)" and Arcadian's "Mantineia, Greece, 2005".[14][12][2] RSC's blog introduced Arcadian on 28 March 2023 as "a newly arrived Greek landrace accession".[28] Kwik Seeds' blog announced it on 7 April 2023 as "collected and maintained by Delice Organic".[29]

The Landrace Team sells lines it calls Kalamata Red and Crete with the sourcing line "Delicorganic".[30][31] It describes Delicorganic as "our member, bio-grower/breeder" and, in text reproduced on SeedFinder, as "our oldest member".[13][32] In December 2025 Delicorganic wrote that The Landrace Team did not have Kalamata Red and advised buyers to trust only RSC for Greek landraces.[33] The Greek shop Tsiou Seeds sells a feminised Kalamata Red that names Delicorganic as its breeder.[34]

Delicorganic has also written about Greek lines sold under other names. A 2016 post relays another grower's account that the seed sold as Athina came from a family in Serres in northern Greece. A 2022 post refers to Moliotiko as a release of RSC from central Greece.[35][19]
