Chumbi Valley (Yadong; 亚东, Yàdōng) is a cannabis growing area in Yadong County of Shigatse, in Tibet, China, in the valley that runs south between Sikkim and Bhutan.[1] Wang Baishi and colleagues sampled ten plants of a population in Yadong County at 2,945 m, which they call feral, for a study of 271 accessions from China; in their tree the Yadong population falls in one group with the populations from Jilong (Gyirong Valley) and Nyingchi (Kongpo).[2]
Herbarium sheet
The Lepcha collector Rohmoo Lepcha gathered the plant at Lingmuthang, at about 3,000 m (10,000 feet), on 12 September 1912; his sheet, number 57, is held by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (Rohmoo Lepcha 57 (1912)).[3] Another of his gatherings of the same season is labelled "Lingmuthang, Chumbi Valley, East Himalaya".[4]
