Ching 9060 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at a place the label calls Kwei Chow, in Anhui (then Anhwei), China, by R. C. Ching for the University of Nanking, and determined by E. D. Merrill. The sheet is undated; a stamp on it reads 15 September 1925. The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum in Honolulu holds it as 161311.[1]
Collection and locality
The printed label is headed Flora of Anhwei Province, China and Herbarium of the University of Nanking. It gives the herbarium number 9060 and the place Kwei Chow, with Chuchow written and struck through, and reads Coll. by R. C. Ching and Det. by E. D. Merrill. A stamp reads Sep 15 1925.[2] The catalogue gives the province as Anhwei and the locality as Kwei Chow, and records the date as not on the sheet.[1]
Kwei Chow here names a place in Anhwei, under the Anhwei label. It is not Guizhou province, which the same romanisation usually denotes.
Specimen and identification
The label names the plant Cannabis sativa L., determined by Merrill.[2] The catalogue records Cannabis sativa subsp. sativa, a name updated by G. W. Staples in 1994.[1] The image is published under a non-commercial licence and is not reproduced here.
