Chevalier 42218 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected by Auguste Chevalier at Adrar, in the Touat of south-western Algeria and dated 31 December 1931. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris holds the sheet as catalogue P00957683.[1] GBIF publishes it as occurrence 1987025402.[2]
Collection and locality
The catalogue gives the locality as the single word Adrar, the field number as 42218 and the date as 31 December 1931.[1][2] No habitat, altitude or cultivation note is carried.
Adrar is the largest settlement of the Touat oasis group, in the Algerian Sahara.[3] It lies in Adrar Province.[4]
Auguste Chevalier lived from 1873 to 1956, so a gathering of 1931 falls inside his working life.[5] He is also named as the determiner of the sheet.[1][2]
Specimen and identification
The catalogue records the preparation as a herbarium sheet and the name as Cannabis sativa L.[1][2] One image of the sheet is published with the occurrence, credited to Fabrice Clermont and issued under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives licence, which is a narrower licence than the rest of the Algerian series carries.[2]
