Artux is a cannabis growing area of the oasis plain of Artux City (阿图什市), in the Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, China. It is part of the Southern Xinjiang growing region and lies north of the Kashgar growing area, at the foot of the Tian Shan. In July 2022 the Artux police uprooted 41 cannabis plants that a man had grown in a maize field at Suntagh (松他克) town.[1]
Since 2000
In the early hours of 27 July 2022 the narcotics brigade of the Artux City public security bureau and the Suntagh police station patrolled Suntagh town. They found 41 cannabis plants that a man had planted among the maize of a secluded field, where the taller maize hid them, and uprooted them that night.[1]
In January 2024 the same narcotics brigade arrested a man who smoked cannabis he grew at home. Police found 41 g of the plant in a container hidden in a haystack outdoors. He told them that at the end of June 2023 he had tried growing cannabis at home, that it grew, and that he cut up the leaves to smoke in place of cut tobacco.[2]
