Ta Lo Farm 'Tiger Tail' Selection 2024 is a domesticate landrace cannabis accession collected by Isabella of the Zomia Collective in Sakhon Nakhon Province, Thailand. The accession represents a selection drawn from the wider Lao-Isan genepool population for the Tiger Tail phenotype.
Geography
Ban Bua is located in Kut Bak District, Sakhon Nakhon Province, Thailand, within the Phu Phan landrace cannabis growing area of the Northeastern Thailand growing region.
Khun Ta Lo's farm sits on the Kut Bak plateau within the Phu Phan Mountains and the larger Khorat Plateau.
The region has a warm, dry climate with fertile soils and an average elevation of around 200 metres.
Collection Details
This accession was collected and documented by Isabella in early 2025. A total of 500 seeds were sourced from Khun Ta Lo and other local cultivators around Ban Bua.
This is a selection accession, drawn from female plants expressing the Tiger Tail phenotype within plots cultivated during the 2024 growing season.
The seeds come from an autochthonous, cultivated landrace cannabis population of the Lao-Isan genepool grown across the Kut Bak plateau.
Cultivation Details
Khun Ta Lo cultivates cannabis on a substantial scale, within a wider context of widespread regional cultivation across the Phu Phan area. Cultivation is currently carried out under license from the Thai government, following legalisation in 2022.
The plants are grown in a mix of organic poly-culture and rotating mono-cropped systems, alongside diverse subsistence and cash crops.
Males are culled and plants are selected for desirable traits. Pollen comes primarily from monoecious individuals within the population. Introgression from foreign genetics at this site is judged to be minimal at the time of collection.
The plants are grown according to the monsoons, with planting from May to June and harvest occurring between October and February.
Indoors, the plants are estimated to flower within 20 to 24 weeks.
Botanical Characteristics
The plants are tall, with most between two and three metres in height.
In terms of morphology, the plants exhibit natural apical dominance and grow in a classic 'christmas tree' pattern. The leaf shape is narrow, slender and long with up to 9 leaflets or more. Serration is shallow.
The foliage runs light green with darker greens emerging on mature growth, while the stems hold a consistent light green. Stigmas dry to brown hairs.
The dried flowers from this accession were processed as ganja, with whole branches dried and cured in semi-darkness in outdoor sheds before being bagged and stored. The Tiger Tail phenotype produces dense, thick colas, distinguishing it from the more elongated, foxtailing structure of the Squirrel Tail phenotype expressed in the same population.
Aroma
Earthy and woody, with herbal musk and spice notes.
Effects
The Tiger Tail phenotype produces clean, stimulating psychoactive effects characteristic of the Lao-Isan genepool.
Conservation Status
The accession is recorded at medium conservation priority. Cultivation remains active in the area within a legal framework, and introgression at this site is judged to be minimal. Pressure on traditional landraces persists across the wider region, driven by the spread of modern hybrids and farm-gate pricing that favours imported genetics.
