PNP burns ₱22.8M worth of marijuana in week-long Cordillera operations, arrests one in Benguet
The Philippine National Police conducted 18 eradication operations across the Cordillera Administrative Region from 6 to 12 April 2026, destroying 71,873 fully grown cannabis plants, 22 seedlings, and approximately 70.6 kilograms of dried stalks, leaves and fruiting tops. The PNP valued the seized material at ₱22.856 million. The majority of plantations were in hard-to-reach areas of Benguet, which accounted for around ₱18 million worth of cannabis, with a further ₱4.8 million worth destroyed in Kalinga. One "high-value suspect" was arrested in Benguet during the week. PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the operations targeted cultivation sites at source and called for community reporting of illegal plantations.
