Vibes Collective, shortened by its members to Vibesco or Vibe Co, was an online community of cannabis growers built around the website vibescollective.org.[1][2][3] The site's "About us" page said "We're here to maintain and regroup information about the genetics of cannabis sativa" and gave landraces a special place, "as they are the source to all the modern varieties available now on the market".[4] Its wiki called the collective "an online international community dedicated to the publication and study of the Cannabis sativa L. genepool".[5] Former members still use the name for seed lines they keep, among them a Jamaican Lambsbread.[6][7]

History

Accounts of the founding differ. In March 2018 the member Roms wrote that SillyCone had created the site with Rahan. In June 2026 SillyCone wrote of having set up the Vibes with Rahan.[8][9] In February 2023 Roms wrote that the collective "was born thanks to Rahan, Kanza and Sillycone for the php work".[6] Mustafunk, writing in August 2018, named Kanza Kaya and Rahan as the founders and said that Silly had helped them set up the website.[3]

The earliest capture of the site in the Wayback Machine, of February 2007, is the forum's login page, which warned that "Only registered members are allowed to access this section".[10] A capture of the homepage from September 2007 carries the footer "© 2006 Vibes Collective". Its menu led to articles, a strainguide in three sections (landraces, hybrids and clones), a community area and an About page.[1] News items posted by SillyCone in 2007 announced reports on hybrids in March and a world map for browsing the landraces in May.[1] The site also ran a wiki, WikiVibes; the history of its home page begins with an edit by SillyCone on 9 December 2007.[11] In March 2009 the strainguide's pages carried the line "Copyright © 2006-2009 SillyCone for The Vibes Collective".[12] On 16 December 2009 a notice on the forum said that "it happened to be impossible to keep our current DNS". The forum was to close on 18 December for a final save and disappear on 3 January.[13] By April 2010 the address showed a page offering the domain for sale.[14]

Members describe the end of the community in different terms. Roms called it a "ten years alive community".[6] Roms also wrote in 2023 that other lines of the collective had been "stolen and sold" and that this was "partly why our free community was closed".[15] Mustafunk wrote in 2020 that the collective "collapsed because only a few were doing the hard work while others took advantage".[16] In 2018 Mustafunk wrote that Silly founded a successor, Silly Vibes 2.0, shortly after the collective closed.[3] Roms wrote in the same year that the backup of the strainguide lacked its landrace section and that the strainguide stayed private by common agreement.[17]

Strainguide

The strainguide's landrace section was made of reports by members. Each entry was placed on the world map by coordinates and had fields for climate, traditional uses, ancestors and classification, with notes on the plant and the smoke.[18] Among the archived entries, these give an origin or a date for their seed:

  • Jamaican Blue Mountains: "Collected in 1984 in the Blue Mountains, preserved since then in Spain".[18]
  • Panama Red 1974: "Unknown origin, on the scene since 1974".[19]
  • N'iakoy: "seeds acquired in 2004 direct from the grower from 2 females in an open pollinated field", from a population "passed down through 3 generations of growers".[20]
  • Sri Lanka Sativa: "Seeds were collected through all the island. We were given 25 seeds for the reproduction presented here."[21]
  • African Goblin, from Malawi: "Collected on field".[22]

The hybrid section listed commercial seed lines by breeder for members to report on.[12]

Seed lines

In August 2018 Mustafunk listed lines the collective still kept, among them JBM85, Panama74, Chiang Mai Thai, South Indian, Vietnam Black, Malawi, Mullumbimby, Ethiopian and Swazi. The same post says that Rahan was still working with the original stock of Lambsbread and Ethiopian.[23] In 2023 Roms wrote that "The Vibesco had worked just few authentic oldschool landrace strains" and that most of its lines "were heirlooms or IBL already worked by" named breeders.[2]

Jamaican Lambsbread

Origin

Members give different accounts of where the seed came from. In April 2018 Roms wrote, in French, that it had passed to GrowDan from Bushman, of the Trenchtown community in Kingston, Jamaica, as an agreement between Rastas on the sole condition that it never make money.[24] Roms's account of February 2023 says that "Dan collected with the singer Bushman on a backstage concert in Martinique" and dates the start of the story to "early 2000".[6] A report by Rahan, undated, which Roms posted in the same thread, says that the line "was gifted to our small collective last year", that it "comes straight from rasta communities in the Carribean" and that its history "can be tracked back to the 70’s in Jamaica".[25] Mustafunk wrote in 2020 that the line "was originally a present from Bushman to GrowDan and the other members, and from GrowDan to Rahan".[16]

Dates

Members and sellers date the line differently. In July 2011 jahgreenlabel, whom Roms counts as a member of the collective, opened a thread on International Cannagraphic Magazine (ICMag) with the words "jamaican lambsbread line 1960".[26][27] Swami Organic Seed has listed seed as "1960's Vibes Collective Lambsbread Heirloom".[28] Kwik Seeds gives the Lambsbread parent of one of its crosses as "1970s Jamaican Lambsbread".[29] Roms wrote in 2024 that in 2002 the line "wasn’t really collected yet".[7] In 2026 Roms wrote of "The 1960 or '68 denomination" that "one could also say 1845 to 1921", tying those years to the arrival of workers from India in Jamaica.[30]

Generations

Roms's account of February 2023 traces the line through Rahan's selection and F2 and F3, an F4 by Volcanik and Upok, "Another parallel F4 repro by Jahgreenlabel with Rahan’s F3", an F5 by OvergrowDaWorld and Roms's own F6 and F7.[6] In 2018 Roms had called jahgreenlabel's reproduction an F5 and dated the F4 reproduction to 2010 or 2011.[27] In February 2026 Roms listed seed of "JLB P7".[31]

Sale

Members say that the pure line is not to be sold. Roms wrote in April 2018 that it had been "sadly sold in pure form recently" and that "the Rasta and our good conscience don't wanna see money from its pure form".[32] Mustafunk wrote in 2020 that "No one has the legitimate right to sell a gift they've received".[16] Swami Organic Seed listed its "1960's Vibes Collective Lambsbread Heirloom" at $100.00. The listing showed the seed in stock in June 2024 and sold out in May and September 2026.[28][33][34] Replying in November 2025 to a link to that listing, jahgreenlabel wrote "$100 for seeds I was giving away by the thousands, for free" and "This strain shouldn't have been sold pure."[35]

Crosses

Crosses made from the line are sold. Mustafunk wrote in 2020 that jahgreenlabel "released both the Double Jamaican and the Colombian Jam through USC", having outcrossed the Lambsbread to "the Jamaican Blue Mountain 1987".[16] In 2025 jahgreenlabel wrote of having "marketed two versions of DoubleJam, the first as an F1".[35] Kwik Seeds sells "an F4 of the legendary Underground Seeds Collective line ‘Double Jam’" and gives its parents as "1970s Jamaican Lambsbread x 1985 Jamaican Blue Mountain".[29] Mustafunk dates the Blue Mountain parent of jahgreenlabel's cross to 1987. Kwik Seeds dates the Blue Mountain parent of Double Jam to 1985.
