Evidentiary scope

One sheet of the gathering is annotated in manuscript Cannabis sativa, L. / Mashobra, Simla. / Aug. 19. 1888. The second sheet carries only the printed field tag Field No. 9393, Herb. G. Watt. The gathering therefore fixes a cannabis plant at a named hill station on a known day. It gives no altitude, no habitat and no statement of use, and it does not show whether the plant was cultivated, spontaneous or an escape. It gives no local variety name and no preparation. The accession is classified Unknown. The sheets show no continuing population and no living germplasm holding, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

Mashobra adjoins Shimla. The point 31.13, 77.23 is the town of Mashobra, OpenStreetMap node 956636683, used as a locality georeference rather than as a reconstructed collection point. A second and much smaller Mashobra lies in the same district at Kotkhai; the label's Mashobra, Simla points to the first. An earlier version of this note gave the point at five decimal places, a precision a town point does not have. The uncertainty allows about 2 km for the town and 1 km for the rounding of the point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 3 km.
