Why the area is on the map
Eleven seed lots were collected in Kirivong district from 2022 to 2024 and another in 2026, and more than 40 news reports of raids in the district date from 2017 to 2025. In January 2023 the National Authority for Combating Drugs named Takeo, and Kiri Vong district in it, as the country's largest growing area (Khmer Times, 10 January 2023).
Border
The border is Takeo Province (OpenStreetMap relation 2200220), about 3,500 km². Until October 2026 Kirivong was itself a growing area, drawn on ground above 50 m in Kirivong district (the Bayong Kor hills). It is now an appellation inside this area, with the same outline. No source reports growing in the province outside Kirivong district; the area takes the province whole so that the appellation sits inside an area, as Kampot's appellations do.
Where this border meets the border of a neighbouring place, the two share one line, drawn once. Redrawing it that way changed the area by under 1%: the figure stays about 3,500 km².
Title
Until October 2026 the title Takeo redirected to Takeo Province. Pages that link the bare Takeo for the province now reach this area page, which covers the same ground.
