Evidentiary scope
The catalogue gives the label, in Vienna's transcription, as Prov. kerman, Kerman, cult. (cult. for cultivated), with the date August 1949. It does not say how, for what or by whom the plant was grown, and names no local name. Drug-type cannabis from different regions began to be cross-bred, and its seed carried into old growing areas, in the 1970s (McPartland and Small 2020, pp. 84–85), so a hybrid origin is not considered for a sheet gathered in 1949. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the label, as the catalogue transcribes it. The sheet does not show what became of the crop or whether its seed survives, and no conservation priority is assigned. An earlier version of this note classified the sheet as Other because a single sheet does not establish a landrace or a continuing population.
Label reading
No image of the sheet is published: JACQ's image service has none for it, and GBIF lists no media. The label has therefore not been read here. The article quotes Vienna's own transcription of it, the catalogue's Label field, and says so.
Georeferencing
The coordinate is Kerman (GeoNames 128234, 30.283209, 57.07879), stored as 30.28, 57.08. The label names the city and gives no altitude to test the point against; the SRTM 30-metre elevation at the stored point is 1,759 metres. The point stands for the city, not a field within or near it.
Editorial treatment
The date is stored to the month, as catalogued. The collector field takes F. Starmühlner, with the umlaut the catalogue writes as ue. Vienna does not link the collector to a person record. The name matches Ferdinand Starmühlner (1927–2006), a Viennese zoologist whose Salzseen und Steppen (1956) describes a journey by car through Persia and Afghanistan; the identification rests on the name, the herbarium and the region. The determination is Small's, undated in the catalogue.
The sheet was sampled in 2018 for Christopher J. Grassa's herbarium-genomics project; the catalogue's note reads Leaf tissue removed for DNA for C.F. Grassa 2018. None of the 1,444 public BioSamples of Cannabis sativa whose voucher field names a herbarium sheet (NCBI, read in early October 2026) names this sheet's catalogue number, so no sequence data is listed in the infobox.
