Discussion
Sources
- District facts. Area, subdivisions, police stations, forest area, sanctuary and population are from the district administration's own pages (sepahijala.nic.in), read on 17 October 2026. The demography page gives block and subdivision figures that sum to the district total of 542,731 but states no census year. The forest table carries no reference year.
- Climate. The annual and seasonal rainfall is from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra contingency plan for the district, which names a draft district agriculture plan as its source and gives no station or period. The Sonamura and Agartala means for 1950–1973 are from footnote 13 of S. Mazumder's 1984 thesis, read from a scanned text with OCR errors.
- History. The Indian Hemp Drugs Commission (vol. I, paras. 96–100 and 284–286) treats Hill Tippera as a whole and names no sub-area. The October 2011 announcement of the new districts is a PTI report; the gazette notification itself was not read.
- Cultivation, trade and enforcement. The 2018 Scroll.in report and the 2021 EastMojo report are used for the farmers', traders' and officials' statements they carry, attributed. The enforcement figures come from news reports of police, Border Security Force and Assam Rifles operations from December 2023 to September 2026, each read in full on 17 October 2026.
Where the sources disagree
- The sanctuary's date. The district's tourism page says the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1972; a Tripura forest-clearance notice is reported to give its declaration as 2 February 1987. Neither date is used in the article.
- The district's start. The district administration says the district began functioning at the end of 2011; the PTI report of October 2011 gives 21 January 2012 as the date the new districts took effect. The article gives the announced date.
Sources not used
- Bhattacharjee (2020), a short public-health review in Acta Scientific Pharmaceutical Sciences that names Sonamura, Motinagar, Kamalnagar, Kalamchowra and Boxanagar as cultivation and smuggling villages. It carries no field data, and its statements cite sources that were not examined; the same places are named in the primary reports.
- Census community figures. Scheduled Tribe totals for the district circulate only through aggregators, which disagree (115,811 and 119,401); the census tables were not reached.
- Tripura Times reports older than 30 days are behind a paywall and could not be read in full.
What the sources do not cover
- No source read gives the months of planting and harvest, the names of local types, or the communities who grow, beyond reports of "tribal women cultivators" at Ramnagar in December 2025 and residents of ADC villages. The article gives months only as the dates of the reported nursery and field destructions.
Page type
The page was created as the growing area Sepahijala. It became an appellation of the Tripura Hills growing area when that area was drawn on the whole state of Tripura; its border, sources and news items are unchanged.
