Evidentiary scope

The article rests on the RSC listing for Malana Cream, the Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, RSC's Himalaya and CBD category pages and three RSC blog posts (February 2021, April 2021 and July 2024). Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose). The listings place the collection in Malana village and date it to winter 2021; they name no farmer and no field. Georeferencing

The listings name Malana village and give a latitude of about 32° N. The coordinate is the village of Malana in OpenStreetMap (node 756382662), rounded to two decimal places: 32.06, 77.26. OpenStreetMap places it in Bhuntar, Kullu district. It marks the village the listings name, not a field. The 28 live accessions of the Malana Valley growing area sit on the same slopes. Editorial treatment

• Accession ID. RSC-IND-HIM-0120210001 takes HIM from Himachal Pradesh, entered without a suffix as Indian states are. The month digits are 01, because "Winter 2021" gives no month.
• Hierarchy. Growing region Western Himalayas, growing area Malana Valley, appellation Malana, district Kullu District and locality Malana, as on the 28 live ZOM-IND-HIM accessions of the Malana Valley. The appellation is stored with the (appellation) suffix by the infobox.
• Collector. Angus, as on the other accessions RSC sourced itself.
• Primary purpose. Multipurpose, for charas, fibre and seed, as on Kumaoni and Gorkha Nepali.
• Height. 2 to 6 m, the union of the figures for this collection: RSC's "up to approx. 6 metres", Kwik Seeds' "3 – 6 metres" and the archived 2 to 6 metres of January 2023.
• Introgression. Unknown, because RSC reports increasing numbers of hybrid-influenced plants in the region and says purity cannot be guaranteed. The other Himalayan RSC accessions use Minimal.
• Conservation priority. Medium: Malana is a documented cultivation area with a moderate population and several sources, including 28 live accessions of the Malana Valley and RSC's own earlier Malana accessions, and RSC reports introgression pressure rather than scarcity. The ratings follow the accession definitions in authored/planning/DESIGN.md: Critical rare, from a single farmer or micro-population; High limited population, few sources; Medium moderate population, multiple sources known; Low common, broadly available within its range.
• Not entered. Chemotype, because "CBD chemotypes are common" describes the population rather than this seed; leaf shape, because broad leaflets are described for early growth only.
• Links. Malana is linked as the village, and the appellation and growing area are linked separately. Rasol, Garhwal and Hawaii are left unlinked.

Source discrepancies

• Height. RSC: "Up to approx. 6 metres outdoors". Kwik Seeds: "3 – 6 metres outdoors". No archived RSC version gives the Kwik Seeds figure.
• Genetics line. RSC: "‘Malana’ Domesticate / Cannabis Landrace". Kwik Seeds: "Himalayan Resin Cultigen, Malana Cream Strain", RSC's line in 2019.
• Hybrids. RSC: "Modern hybrids were introduced to this region perhaps as early as the 1980s. Recently, introduced hybrids have resulted in increasing numbers of plants exhibiting ‘skunky’ terpenes". Kwik Seeds: "Introduced hybrids are likely to have resulted in an increasing number of plants showing ‘skunky’ terpenes", RSC's 2019 wording.
• Photographs. Only RSC says the main photograph shows an earlier Malana accession outdoors in Hawaii and that the other images show plants from this accession at 40° N in mid-July.

Archived versions

The Wayback Machine holds 23 versions of the RSC listing, from August 2019 to June 2026, and all were read. The listing has sold three collections under the same address, and the sourcing line has returned to this one:

• Sourcing. "Personally obtained at source in Malana, winter 2017" from August 2019 to October 2022; "Winter 2021" in the version of 30 January 2023; "Winter 2022" from June 2023 to April 2025; "(Winter 2021)" again from September 2025. The article cites the version of 30 January 2023 for the height of this collection.
• Height. "3 – 4 metres outdoors" in 2019, "2 – 6 metres" from August 2020 to August 2024 and "Up to approx. 6 metres" from January 2025.
• Classification. "C. sativa subsp. indica var. afghanica x C. sativa subsp. indica var. himalayensis x C. sativa subsp. indica var. indica" from August 2020 to October 2022, for the winter 2017 collection. It is not used here.
• Hybrids. "At least as early as the 1980s" from August 2020 to August 2024; "perhaps as early as the 1980s" from January 2025.
• Photographs. The main photograph has been on the listing since August 2019. The three field photographs and the indoor photograph, and the note that the other images show plants from this accession at 40° N in mid-July, first appear in January 2025, when the sourcing line read winter 2022. The infobox image and the gallery are five of the photographs on the RSC listing, uploaded under fair use at reduced resolution. RSC states that "The other images are plants from this accession at 40° N in mid July", so the captions of the three field photographs give that latitude and month; one has a face masked out. Those photographs and that note first appear in the archived version of 25 January 2025, when the sourcing line read winter 2022; the line read winter 2021 again from September 2025 and the note was kept. The listing does not reconcile the two, and this page draws no conclusion. RSC says the main photograph shows one of its previous Malana accessions outdoors in Hawaii after two heavy storms, so it is captioned as an earlier accession and is not used in the infobox. The indoor photograph is not a field image, so its caption says only what it shows.
