Identifier

The accession identifier is RSC-AFG-NAN-0120190001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Country AFG and province segment NAN are for Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, where the listing places the Tora Bora cavern complex, as on RSC-AFG-NAN-0120220001. The USDA genebank entry gives Pakistan (below).
  • Year 2019 is the year of the listing's earliest archived version and of RSC's post announcing the line, October 2019; the sources do not give the year of the harvest. The month digits are 01.
  • Sequence 0001. The other RSC accession for Nangarhar is of 2022.

Sourcing

The RSC listing for Tora Bora as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its 18 versions in the Wayback Machine from October 2019 to April 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; RSC's post of 4 October 2019; and the GRIN-Global entry for G 33767. Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose).

Lots at this listing

All 18 archived versions give the Spīn Ghar sourcing, so one collection has been on sale. The versions of October and December 2019 sell it without comment. Those from November 2020 to July 2024 (nine) add: "NOTE: The current seeds are from open-pollinating a large population from the original accession collected in the Hindu Kush." From September 2024 (seven) the note is gone, while the listing shows "more recent photos … of plants from this accession at 40° N in mid July"; the Kwik Seeds listing keeps the note. The collection and the reproduction are kept as separate accessions: this page and RSC-AFG-NAN-0120190001-R1.

Evidentiary scope

The sources say the seed was collected from local small farmers near the Tora Bora cavern complex. They name no village, farmer or year, and do not say on which side of the border the farmers' fields lay. RSC's account of the cave complex and of the area's charas trade is attributed in the article.

Typing

  • Classification: Landrace, sourcing type Point of Origin, autochtonous Yes: the listing describes seed collected from local farmers at the source.
  • Collector. Left blank. The listing credits Kushman, and the convention enters Angus only for RSC's own and Landrace Genetics sourcing lines.
  • Country and province. Afghanistan and Nangarhar Province, from the listing's "Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan". Locality Tora Bora, the place the listing names.
  • Hierarchy. Growing region Eastern Afghanistan and growing area Nangarhar, as on RSC-AFG-NAN-0120220001.
  • Collection date is left empty: the sources do not give the year of the harvest.
  • Lot. sold, from the versions of 2019, which sell the collected seed before the open-pollinated stock.
  • Processing. "Charas (sieved resin)" is entered as Dry-sift.
  • Conventions. Photoperiod Short-day and introgression Minimal follow the other RSC accessions; the listing states neither.

Georeferencing

The listing places the seed "nearby the Tora Bora … cavern complex" in the Spīn Ghar mountains, and the donor's note on the USDA entry G 33767 in "the Af-Pak border region around the Tora Bora caves". The point 34.12, 70.21 is OpenStreetMap's object for Tora Bora (node 9014208631, mapped as a peak), in Pachir Aw Agam district, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. It is a site point for the place the sources name, not the farmers' fields, which the sources do not name. "Nearby" and "the region around" set no distance, so the uncertainty of about 10 km is an allowance for that wording, not a measured extent. The growing area entered, Nangarhar, is drawn on the whole of Nangarhar Province, so it names no smaller place. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 10 km.

Source discrepancies

  • Country. The listing: "Afghanistan – Pakistan Border", and the cavern complex "on the border of Khyber and Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan". The USDA entry G 33767: origin "Collected – Pakistan", with a donor's note placing the accession "around the Tora Bora caves on the border of Khyber and Nangarhar Province". The page follows the listing; the entry's Pakistan is reported here.
  • Sourcing. RSC in 2019: "Personally collected at source". RSC since November 2020 and Kwik Seeds: "Kushman".
  • Reproduction. Kwik Seeds and RSC from November 2020 to July 2024: "The current seeds are from open-pollinating a large population from the original accession". The current RSC listing does not carry the note.
  • Genetics line. RSC: "Hindu Kush Cannabis Landrace". Kwik Seeds: "Hindu Kush Domesticate ("Landrace")". RSC in October 2019: "Pure Tora Bora Hindu Kush Landrace Strain".

Photographs

None. The listing's photographs of plants at 40° N first appear in September 2024 and are on RSC-AFG-NAN-0120190001-R1. Its photograph of a farmer roguing out males in Oruzgan, Afghanistan, in 1990 is not of this line and is not used.
