Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 109250 (Inventory No. 122 (1939), p. 53) and the entry for PI 109250 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collectors, their field number, the date and the market. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-TUR-KAS-1019340001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 109250.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • TUR is the ISO code for Turkey.
  • KAS stands for Kastamonu Province.
  • Month 10: October, the month the seed was gathered.
  • Year 1934 is the year the seed was gathered.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The seed was bought in a market. Neither source says where the plants that bore it were grown, so the accession is classified Unknown.

Collectors and donors

The inventory heads the whole consignment "Seeds collected by H. L. Westover and C. R. Enlow, Bureau of Plant Industry", and GRIN-Global lists the same two men, so both are given as collectors.

Location and georeferencing

The coordinate is Kastamonu town, at the point OpenStreetMap gives for its central district (relation 1801994), 41.38, 33.78. It marks the market town the source names, not a field: a bazaar sample may have been grown anywhere in the town's hinterland. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 5 km, the town's built-up extent plus 1 km for the two-decimal form. The province is the one GRIN-Global gives.

Dates

The collection date, 4 October 1934, is the day the seed was taken at the market, as both sources give it. The lot reached Washington on 11 January 1935, its received date.

Field number

The printed inventory gives the field number as No. T-285; GRIN-Global gives No. T-258. The printed page reads T-285, and the numbers around it fit that reading: the other samples taken at the Kastamonu bazaar that day are T-287 and T-288, while T-257 is a grass from the mountains north of Tosya. The page uses T-285.
