Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 6671 (Inventory No. 10 (1905), p. 105) and the entry for PI 6671 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory names the botanic garden at Sibpur as the source and adds nothing about the seed. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-IND-WEB-0019010002 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 6671.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • IND is the ISO code for India.
  • WEB stands for West Bengal.
  • Month 00: the date the seed was gathered is not known.
  • Year 1901 is the year the department received the lot.
  • 0002 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The inventory gives a botanic garden as the source. Seed from a botanic garden was raised there, not taken from a crop or a wild stand at a named place, so the accession is classified Other. Neither source says where the garden's own plants came from.

Collectors and donors

GRIN-Global lists Gage, A.T., Royal Botanical Gardens - Sibpur in its collector field. The printed inventory names no person. GRIN-Global uses the collector field for the sender on other entries of this period, so the infobox gives no collector.

Name

The inventory printed the name Cannabis indica; GRIN-Global gives Cannabis sativa L.

Location and georeferencing

The coordinate is the middle of the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden at Shibpur, Howrah, as OpenStreetMap maps it (way 52097541), 22.56, 88.29. The garden covers about 1.1 km², a circle of about 0.6 km radius, and 1 km is added for the two-decimal form. It marks the garden the source names, a named site rather than a settlement. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 2 km.

Dates

The date the seed was gathered is not known, so the collection date is empty. Both sources give 31 May 1901 as the date of receipt, the lot's received date. The identifier therefore carries month 00 and the year of receipt.
