Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 64347 (Inventory No. 83 (1927), p. 46) and the entry for PI 64347 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the explorer's number and date, the man he had the seed from, the town, and that man's report on the variety. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-CHN-SHX-0519250001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 64347.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • CHN is the ISO code for China.
  • SHX stands for Shanxi.
  • Month 05: May, the month the seed was gathered.
  • Year 1925 is the year the seed was gathered.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

Flory reported the seed as a very common variety where he lived, the place the entry names, so the accession is classified Landrace.

Collectors and donors

GRIN-Global lists Dorsett and R. C. Flory. The printed entry says Dorsett received the seed from Flory, who was at Liaochou, so the infobox gives no collector; Dorsett's number, 2915, is in the text.

Location and georeferencing

The inventory names Liaochou, R. C. Flory's home, today's Zuoquan County seat, and nothing finer. The point 37.08, 113.36 is the point OpenStreetMap gives for the county seat of Zuoquan (node 244082554), a locality georeference for the place the source names, not a collection point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 4 km, the town's extent plus 1 km for the two-decimal form.

Dates

The collection date, 15 May 1925, is the date of Dorsett's number, the day he had the seed from Flory, as both sources give it. The inventory gives the dates of receipt as 25 and 26 June 1925, and GRIN-Global gives 26 June 1925, which is used as the received date.
