Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The label gives a name, a place, a month and a number. It gives no habitat, no use and no note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population, and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Oslo image of O-V-2164527 (4912 × 7360 pixels) and Meise's image of BR0000014662553 (4855 × 7181 pixels); the page states only what the two readings agree.
- Coimbra label, both sheets: printed HERBARIO DO JARDIM BOT. DA UNIVERSIDADE DE COIMBRA / handwritten Cannabis sativa L. / S. Thomé: Nova Moka. / leg. A. Moller — 6-1885. / printed N.º handwritten 54.
- Oslo sheet: printed Herb. Univers. Christianiensis (blank); barcode label Herb. Univers. Osloënsis.
- Meise sheet: printed Herbier du Jardin Botanique de l'État / BRUXELLES / 369-14; stamp Comm. De Wildeman.
Georeferencing
The point 0.29, 6.63 is the hamlet of Nova Moça, OpenStreetMap node 1600938435, in Mé-Zóchi district, 1.48 km from the village of Monte Café. The label's Nova Moka and the Oslo catalogue's Nova Mocka are taken as spellings of Nova Moça; no other place of the name is in OpenStreetMap on the island. The label gives no altitude; the SRTM height at the node is 858 metres. It places the gathering at the hamlet, not at a spot within it. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 2 km.
Editorial treatment
Two sheets, one accession. Both sheets carry the same Coimbra label, with the same number and date; they are duplicates of one gathering. The infobox takes the Oslo sheet's values.
Collector. The label gives A. Moller; the collector field takes it.
Country. São Tomé is entered as São Tomé and Príncipe, its present state.
Source discrepancies
- Meise catalogues its sheet under the collector De Wildeman E. and the number 54, with no date or place; the label names A. Moller as collector, and De Wildeman's name is on the Brussels stamp that records how the sheet arrived.
- The Oslo catalogue spells the place Nova Mocka; the label writes Nova Moka.
