Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The label records the plant as Unkraut (a weed) on a property in Windhoek, in 1968. The plant grew outside cultivation. The accession is classified Feral, by inference from the label; the label does not say whether the plants descended from a crop. A single gathering does not establish a continuing population, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read twice, independently, from Meise's image (4793 × 7155 pixels); the page states only what the two readings agree.

  • Label: typed Aus der Botanischen Staatssammlung München / Cannabis sativa L. / Südwestafrika, Distr. Windhoek: / Unkraut auf dem Grundstück and a street address in Windhoek / 19. 2. 1968 / leg. P. G. Meyer No.1094.
  • Holder's label: HERBARIUM HORTI BOTANICI BRUXELLENSIS (BELGIUM); Acc. 1976 (read once).

The street address is not repeated on the wiki.

Georeferencing

The point -22.58, 17.08 is the city of Windhoek, OpenStreetMap node 33364833. The label names a property in Windhoek; the page does not place the point at the property. The city's administrative boundary (OpenStreetMap relation 8650326, about 152 km²) lies 3.7 to 16.6 km from the node. It places the gathering in the city, not at a spot within it. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 18 km.

Editorial treatment

Collector. The label gives P. G. Meyer; the collector field takes it, and the page does not identify him further.

Place. The label's Südwestafrika is South West Africa, today Namibia. The label gives a private street address, which the page leaves out.

Source discrepancies

  • The catalogue gives no date or place; the label gives Windhoek and 19 February 1968.
