Evidentiary scope
The catalogue places a cannabis plant at Isō station, in Hyōgo, on 27 May 1935, and names S. Hosomi as the collector. The label itself has not been seen. The catalogue gives no habitat and no note on cultivation, so the accession is classified Other; no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Not read: the holder publishes no image of the sheet. The page reports the catalogue's fields as GBIF publishes them (read 12 October 2026): catalogue number C1-015646 (collection VP); collector S.Hosomi; number 1164; date 1935-05-27; province Hyogo; locality HONSHU. Pref.Hyogo: Isou station, Hikami-cho,Hikami-gun.; name Cannabis sativa L.; no coordinates or altitude.
Georeferencing
The point 35.15, 135.06 is Isō station (石生駅) as OpenStreetMap maps it (node 8018126443, railway=station, 35.1527, 135.0638), rounded to two decimal places, 0.46 km from the node. The catalogue's Isou station is read as Isō: the Japanese Wikipedia places the station in Hikami-chō, Tamba, and the catalogue gives Hikami-cho; the station opened on 15 July 1899, before the gathering. The catalogue names the station and no spot near it; the point stands for the station and the settlement around it. A reverse lookup of the point gives Tamba, Hyōgo Prefecture. SRTM gives 108 m; the catalogue gives no altitude. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 1 km.
Editorial treatment
Catalogue only. The accession is made from the holder's catalogue alone, with no image; every fact on the page is the catalogue's, and the label may hold more than the catalogue transcribes.
Collector. The collector field takes S. Hosomi, the catalogue's S.Hosomi spaced. No source read identifies him: the Harvard Index of Botanists has only a Toshiki Hosomi, collecting from 2010. The name is not linked.
Place. The province and municipality fields take Hyōgo Prefecture and the city of Tamba, which took in the town of Hikami on 1 November 2004 (English and Japanese Wikipedia); the town itself was formed in 1955, after the gathering. The locality field keeps the catalogue's Isou station, Hikami-cho, Hikami-gun.
Source discrepancies
- None. The page gives the catalogue's collector, number, date and place, as GBIF publishes them.
