Georeferencing
The point 30.82, 110.29 is the middle of Badong County's administrative area in OpenStreetMap (relation 2983956, about 3,370 km²), checked to fall inside it. The Wikidata item for Badong County (Q799676) carries the aliases Pa-tung and Pa-tung Hsien; the district of 1887 is taken to be the present county by its name. It is an area point for the county, not the place the plant was gathered. Basis: district point. Uncertainty: about 33 km.
Editorial treatment
Date. Febr., 1887 is printed with From Dr. A. Henry, Ichang: it dates the sending of the set, not the gathering. No date is stored, and the title takes (by 1887).
Numbers. 2431 is written with the name on Henry's printed label and is taken as his number. The 487 on the museum label goes with Kew's gift.
Collector. The collector field keeps the label's A. Henry. He is Augustine Henry (1857–1930), the Irish plantsman and sinologist, who served in the Chinese customs in Hubei among other provinces (English Wikipedia; Harvard botanist index). The prose links Augustine Henry.
Source discrepancies
- The catalogue dates the gathering to February 1887, the date of the sending on the printed label, and gives the locality as Patung district, Ichang.
