Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The catalogues give a number, the years and the country. They record no place, no habitat, no use and no note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population, and no conservation priority is assigned.
Georeferencing
No point is given. Both catalogues name Gabon and no place within it, and the labels have not been read.
Editorial treatment
Two sheets, one accession. The two Paris sheets carry the same collector and number in the museum's catalogue; they are treated as one gathering. The title takes Tropicos's year, 1864, which falls in the museum's span.
A third Paris sheet. The museum also holds P06829905, a Griffon du Bellay sheet of Cannabis from Gabon dated 1863 in the catalogue, with no number. It has not been read and is not added to this page.
Collector. Marie-Théophile Griffon du Bellay (1829–1908), a French naval surgeon and ethnobotanist, was posted to the hospital ship Caravane in the Gabon estuary in November 1861 and travelled towards the Ogooué in 1862 (English Wikipedia, Marie-Théophile Griffon du Bellay). The collector field takes his initials.
Image. No image of the sheet was read for this page; its values are the holder's catalogue's. The museum's image of the sheet is published under CC BY 4.0 but could not be retrieved for this page (GBIF's image cache does not hold it, and the museum's own server refused the connection); the label has not been read.
Source discrepancies
- The museum's catalogue gives a span of 1863 to 1864; Tropicos gives 1864.

The labels of P06829902 and P06829904, and of P06829905: they may name a place, and show whether P06829905 is part of the same gathering.
