Discussion
Evidentiary scope
This is an object rather than a field gathering: Kew's catalogue names a donor and an entry number, and no collector, no collection date and no place finer than North Formosa. It documents the inner bark of hemp from northern Taiwan by 1882. The catalogue gives no habitat and no note on cultivation, so the accession is classified Other; no conservation priority is assigned.
Kew publishes no image of this object, and GBIF carries none.
Georeferencing
No point is given. The geography line reads North Formosa, the northern part of the island of Taiwan under its historical name. It has no boundary, spans several of today's counties and cities, and the catalogue names no place within it. The donor was the British consul at Tamsui, in the north of the island, but the catalogue does not say that the material came from there.
Editorial treatment
The entry book number is not a collection date. Kew's help page defines an Entry Book Number as a number assigned to each group of specimens at the point of acquisition, running in a series each year. This object's number, 139.1882, dates its arrival at Kew. The collection date field is blank, and the accession carries no date; the sample was gathered no later than 1882, the limit the title gives.
Donor. Kew's donor field reads Watters T; the two other samples of the entry name Tamsui HM Consul (with the note Watters T) and Watters T, HM Consul. The full name is not given. The collector field is empty, because Kew's help page uses the donor field for specimens that passed through a second person or institution.
Country. Kew leaves the country undefined. Its geography line, North Formosa, is in present-day Taiwan, which the country field gives.
