Identifier
The accession identifier is EAG-KEN-MIG-0120200001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Holder segment
EAGstands for East Africa Genes. - Year 2020 is the year of the first dated document that lists the line: the catalogue capture of 7 August 2020. No source gives a collection year, so the identifier takes the first attested year. It is a lower bound, not a collection date, and the collection date field is empty.
- Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
- Province segment. The seller names Migori. The town lies in Migori County, so the province field is Migori, the form the wiki uses for Kenyan counties, and the segment is
MIG. - Sequence
0001. First of the two Migori lines in the order of the August 2020 capture (Migori, then Isibania).
Sourcing
The catalogue page Pure African Strains (https://eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/) was read as it stood on 8 October 2026 and in twelve archived captures from 7 August 2020 to 4 June 2023 (https://web.archive.org/web/*/eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/). No capture between June 2023 and the current page could be read. The seller's Overgrow adverts of 21 November 2023 (https://overgrow.com/t/migori-sativa-aka-bull-fighting-strain-from-western-kenya/129486/1) and 12 June 2024 (https://overgrow.com/t/bullfights-in-western-kenya/153218/1) were read from saved copies.
Every statement about the line is the seller's account and is attributed to it. No collector, farmer, collection site or collection date is named.
Typing
- Classification: Landrace. The seller's catalogue says that farmers in western Kenya feed the line to bulls before bull fights, and its advert of 2023 says that the line was first grown by the Luhya and the Kuria. The seller also says that it collects its seed on road trips in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania (see East Africa Genes). That ties the line to local farmers. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the seller's account, which names no farm, collection site or date. The account has not been checked against other sources. An earlier version of this note classified the line as Other, on the ground that a seller's account does not establish the class of the source population.
- Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. No source gives a chain of custody from a growing population to the seed on sale.
- Accession type is left empty: the sources do not say whether the seed on sale was gathered from growers or reproduced from earlier seed.
- Traits. The flavours and effects in the article are the seller's words. The catalogue's "Vegetation & Flowering" figure counts vegetative growth and flowering together, so it is reported in the article and not entered as a flowering time.
Georeferencing
The point -1.07, 34.47 is the town of Migori, OpenStreetMap node 44927777 (place=town), in Suna West, Migori County. It reverse-geocodes to Ragana-Oruba ward, Suna West, Migori, Kenya. OpenStreetMap maps no boundary for the town; its built-up area, judged from mapped buildings (at least about three a hectare), reaches about 5 km from the point. "Migori" is also the name of the county (about 3,135 km²), and the seller's 2023 advert speaks of an unnamed small rural town in the Lake Victoria region, so the point marks the town the line is named after, not a farm. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 6 km.
Conservation priority
Not rated. The sources give nothing about the size or status of the source population.
