Border

The border is the part of the municipality of Ciénaga (OpenStreetMap relation 1314682; DIVIPOLA code 47189) that lies inside the border of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta growing area, which follows ground at or above 200 metres. It is simplified and covers about 1,090 km², 83% of the municipality; the town and the coastal plain lie outside. The point in the infobox is a point inside the border, not a field.

Sources

  • The status is Active: the eradication dataset lists marijuana eradicated in the municipality from 2007 to 2020, and the police reported plants at Palmor in February 2019.
  • The Ministry of Defence's eradication dataset lists, for Ciénaga with crop type marihuana: 421 rows, 10 April 2007 to 16 June 2020, 650.06 hectares (Magdalena: 848 rows, 988.5 hectares) (downloaded 20 October 2026). The figures on the page are sums of those rows.
  • The dataset gives the municipality only; it does not say how much of the area eradicated lay in the mountains, inside this appellation.
  • The 1969 field is known from a police bulletin cited by Sáenz Rovner (2007, pp. 218–219, n. 39). The Oraloteca interview (2009) and the testimony published by SOAS (2022) are first-person recollections by unnamed narrators; the SOAS narrator's farm is placed only "in Ciénaga". Both name La Reserva as the most productive area. San Pedro de la Sierra and Palmor are placed in the municipality by the ombudsman's alert 020-25 (p. 61). El Heraldo (2021) names San Pedro de la Sierra and Siberia, not the municipality.
  • The police release on Palmor (February 2019) prints an area of 61 hectares for 660 plants; the page gives the plant count only.
  • Not used: drying and collection sites for marijuana in rural Ciénaga (Colombia Reports, 2013; an undated armed forces bulletin), which name no crop; a recollection in Britto (2020) that the best marijuana of the 1930s was in Ciénaga, which is about smoking, not growing; the INDERENA report of 1986 on the valleys of the Córdoba, Toribio and Frío rivers, which names rivers, not municipalities (it is cited on the growing area page).
