Evidentiary scope
The label gives the place, the altitude, the date and the collector. It names no habitat, use or note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of the sheet (PE 00557896, 998 × 1,440 pixels).
- Typed form (printed 植物 / 中國科學院植物分類研究所 / 植物標本室): 41363 / 採集人及號數 H.F.Chow 1931年7月25 (the image edge cuts the last character) / 產地 West Hill, Peking / 海拔 350 m. / 學名 Canabis.
- Tag (printed): HOPEH EXP. 1931 / H. F. Chow. / No. in faint pencil.
- Determination slip. No. 41363 / Cannabis sativa L. / Determinavit K.C.Kuan 1939.
- Red 70881 (a Fan Memorial Institute number) beside the institute's stamp; HOPEI province stamp.
The two readings agree, both reading the day as 25.
Georeferencing
No point is given. West Hill is read as the Western Hills (西山, Wikidata Q2501459), the range west of the city; OpenStreetMap holds no outline of the range from which to take a middle, and Wikidata gives it two points about 14 km apart, both at 565–599 m in SRTM. The label's 350 m fits the lower slopes on the range's eastern side, but they run for many kilometres and no place within the range is named. The province field takes Beijing.
Editorial treatment
Collector. The collector field keeps the label's H. F. Chow. The Harvard botanist index has one collector with that label form, Chow Hang-fan, with sheets from Hebei dated 1930 to 1932; no source ties him to this sheet, so the name is not linked.
Elevation. The elevation field stores the label's 350 m.
Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
