Discussion

Evidentiary scope

Harvard's index gives a collector, a city, a month and a note that the sheet holds a male and a female plant. It records no habitat, use or note on cultivation, and the city alone does not say how the plant grew. McPartland and Small's var. asperrima is a determination from the plant, not a statement of how it grew. The accession is classified Unknown. It does not establish a continuing population, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

The index gives lahore, the city. The point 31.57, 74.31 is Lahore's place node in OpenStreetMap (node 1886594378). The city's administrative boundary, Lahore District (relation 16117666, about 1,794 km²), reaches 42.7 km from the node; the label names the city and no place within it, so the uncertainty takes in the whole district, with 1 km added for the rounding of the point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 44 km.

Editorial treatment

Title and collector. Harvard's index spells the collector H. Chandhuri; McPartland and Small, who cite the Gray Herbarium sheet, spell him Chaudhuri. The title and the collector field take Chaudhuri, with Harvard's initial. The collector is not identified further.

Country. Harvard's index gives India, the country of the sheet's time. Lahore has been in Pakistan since 1947, and the page follows the place, as McPartland and Small do.

Image. Harvard's index publishes no image of the sheet. The page's values are the index's and McPartland and Small's.

Source discrepancies

  • Harvard's index gives the collector as H. Chandhuri; McPartland and Small give Chaudhuri.
  • Harvard's index gives the country as India; McPartland and Small file the sheet under Pakistan.
