Identifier

The accession identifier is CBG-JAM-UNK-0120130001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment CBG stands for Cannabiogen.
  • Country segment JAM and province segment UNK. The listing names the Blue Mountains, a range that spans several parishes, and no parish or place within it.
  • Year 2013 is the year of the earliest dated document found that lists the line: Cannabiogen's English-section product page, captured by the Wayback Machine on 12 December 2013 (http://www.cannabiogen.com/en/limited-releases/jamaica-blue-mountain.html). No source gives a collection year, so, as for other vendor accessions without one, the identifier takes the first attested year. A Wayback Machine capture shows when the archive saw a page, not when the line went on sale, so the year is a lower bound and moves if an earlier capture or catalogue is found.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.

Sourcing

Cannabiogen's product page of 12 December 2013 (English section, Spanish text), read from a Wayback Machine capture. The description is written in the first person and not signed.

Every statement about the line is the company's account and is attributed to it. The listing says the line came from the Blue Mountains "en esa época", at that time, without giving a date, and names no collector or farmer. No independent source for the line's origin was found.

The listing also says that the company returned its Jamaica line to Jamaica some years earlier, to an old Rasta grower, through Canadian friends ("Nuestra Jamaica la devolvimos a Jamaica a manos de un viejo cultivador Rasta"). This is left out of the article: it names no lot, place or date.

Typing

  • Classification: Other. Cannabiogen's account of the line is its own and is attributed in the article; a vendor listing does not establish the class of the source population.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. The listing gives no chain of custody from the source population to the seed on sale.
  • Accession type is left empty. The listing says "esta reproduccion vienen de un lote en específico", but no source names the collection the lot comes from, so the page is not typed Reproduction and carries no parent accession.
  • Cultivation status: Unknown. The company's home page still offered seed in April 2021 and only its Delta nutrient range in May 2022 (see Cannabiogen). That says nothing about whether anyone still grows the line.
  • Traits. The flowering times, aromas and effects in the infobox are the company's. The heights (3 to 4 m, close to 4 m) are of particular plants, not a range for the line, and are left out of the infobox.

Other lots of the line

Vibes Collective's strainguide described a Jamaican Blue Mountains line as "Collected in 1984 in the Blue Mountains, preserved since then in Spain". No source read connects that line with Cannabiogen's lot.

Archived versions

The product page was captured on 12 December 2013 (the text used here) and again on 12 January and 27 February 2014 (not read). The line is not in the English limited-release catalogue captured on 21 December 2013 or 21 February 2014.

Georeferencing

No coordinate is asserted. OpenStreetMap has no object for the Blue Mountains range itself; the one object a search returns is the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park (relation 17870130), which also takes in the John Crow Mountains, and the listing does not say it means the park. A point for the range would describe the range rather than the population.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The listing gives nothing about the size or status of a source population.
