Page scope
Beutong Ateuh treats the mountains of the kecamatan of Beutong Ateuh Banggalang, in Nagan Raya regency, Aceh, as a cannabis growing area: the fields found and destroyed there from 2023 to 2026, the plants and stands the reports describe, and the 1999 claim that the ulama Bantaqiah grew cannabis there. The kecamatan as an administrative unit is a separate subject, under its full name Beutong Ateuh Banggalang. The neighbouring kecamatan of Beutong is a different unit and is not part of this area.

Discussion
Why Beutong Ateuh is a growing area
- Every report read names cannabis fields inside the kecamatan of Beutong Ateuh Banggalang: 32 hectares in March 2023 (acehkini), about 40 hectares at eleven points in April 2023 of which 8.9 hectares at three points were burned first (Antara, Serambinews, iNews, Kompas TV), four hectares at Blang Meurandeh in September 2023 (Waspada Aceh), about 25 hectares at eight points in Blang Meurandeh and Kuta Teungoh in June 2025 (Antara, RMOL), 50 hectares at Blang Meurandeh in July 2026 (Prohaba) and about 12 hectares at Alue Jring, Blang Meurandeh, in August 2026 (Komparatif.ID).
- The status is Active: the reports describe cultivation there in 2023, 2025 and 2026. Destruction of the fields does not mean growing has ended, and no source says it has. The reports of July and August 2026 found plants as young as 15 days.
- The 50 kilograms stopped at Kuta Blang, Bireuen, in February 2026 is reported as coming from Beutong Ateuh. The stop itself took place outside the area, so the news item stays filed under Bireuen.
Extent and border
- The map border is approximate. It is drawn on the kecamatan of Beutong Ateuh Banggalang as mapped in OpenStreetMap (relation 8921213), about 405 km². The infobox area is rounded from it.
- Every report that places its fields below the kecamatan names Blang Meurandeh, Kuta Teungoh or Alue Jring (a site in Blang Meurandeh), all inside the kecamatan. The report of March 2023 names only "the Beutong Ateuh area". A coordinate published with the report of April 2023 falls inside the border; it is not repeated on the article.
- The neighbouring kecamatan of Beutong is left out: no report read places fields there.
- The point in the infobox is a point inside the border near its centre, not a field.
Spelling
- The sources spell the kecamatan Beutong Ateuh Banggalang (Antara, Serambinews, Waspada Aceh, Prohaba, Komparatif.ID), Benggalang (RMOL) and Banggala (iNews). The page uses Banggalang, the spelling of most of the reports and of OpenStreetMap. The growing area takes the short name Beutong Ateuh, which the reports also use for the mountains and the forest.
Source conflicts
- April 2023. Antara (12 April) reports that the regency police and the army destroyed 40 hectares, at eleven points. Kompas TV (13 April), quoting the commander of the army's Teuku Umar area command, gives 40 hectares at eleven points, of which three points (8.9 hectares) had been destroyed and eight were still being tracked. The article follows Kompas TV on what was destroyed. Serambinews dates the burning to Monday 10 April; a photo caption in Antara gives Tuesday 11 April. The article gives no day. Antara gives plant heights and planting distances in units that cannot be right (plants of "0.20 to 2.60 centimetres"); those figures are not used.
- June 2025. Antara, quoting the regency police chief, says the fields were destroyed from 19 to 24 June and puts the stand at about a million plants weighing about 200 tonnes. RMOL, reporting a statement by the national police's narcotics directorate, gives destruction in stages from 23 to 27 June and 960,000 plants weighing 180 tonnes. The article follows Antara for the dates and the plant count and does not give a weight. The village names and the 25 hectares at eight points agree.
Sources
- All reports are in Indonesian; titles, dates and bylines are those on each page. iNews runs over two pages; both are used.
- McGibbon (2006). Used for the July 1999 killing of Tgk. Bantaqiah and his followers at Beutong Ateuh and for the military's unverified claim that he grew cannabis (p. 336). A chapter by Aspinall in the same volume places Beutong Ateuh in Central Aceh; it is now in Nagan Raya, which was formed in 2002.
