Why the area is mapped

  • The Free Press Journal of 18 October 2022 reports cannabis grown between cotton and tur on a farm near Malphalya village, in the Sendhwa area.
  • The Free Press Journal of 13 September 2026, datelined Sendhwa, reports plants seized from four fields in the Shakkarkua–Borpadava area on 10 September and cannabis growing in five fields under Varla police station, Sendhwa subdivision, on 12 September, in an operation of the Barwani police.

Growing status

The status is Active: cultivation in the district is reported in 2022 and 2026. No source read gives a year before 2022 for the district itself.

How the border is drawn

  • The border is Barwani District in OpenStreetMap (administrative relation 1976212), simplified, about 5,400 km². It is a proxy: the police report by district and police station. The 2022 report names Malphalya "in Barwani district"; the 2026 report names Varla police station in the Sendhwa subdivision and the Barwani police, and places the Shakkarkua–Borpadava raid only by its Sendhwa dateline.
  • Where this border meets the border of a neighbouring place, the two share one line, drawn once. Redrawing it that way changed the area by under 1%: the area is now about 5,500 km², up from about 5,400.
  • The map point (21.68, 75.10) is near Sendhwa. The two news items of September 2026 carry the point 21.68, 75.27, which falls about half a kilometre outside the district line; their text places them in the Sendhwa area of Barwani District.

Sources

  • Free Press Journal. Figures for plants, weights and values are the police's.
  • The 1893 memorandum on Central India (Hemp Drugs Commission, Vol. III, p. 158) reports cultivation all over the Bhopawar Agency, limited and, "except in the parts adjoining British Nimar, only for the personal use of the cultivators". It names no state, so it is cited on Nimar and not here.
