Discussion

Identifier

The accession identifier is AFP-NGA-UNK-0120090001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment AFP stands for Afropips.
  • Country segment NGA and province segment UNK. See "Country" below.
  • Year 2009 is the year of the earliest dated document found that lists the line: the menu of the business's website, archived on 13 April 2009, whose pure African section has a page called "NIGERIAN" (http://www.afropips.moonfruit.com/pureafricans/4511419431). The Nigerian page itself was never archived. From October 2004 the site's Africa map listed "NIGERIA" among its "Top Growing Regions", but no archived page of 2004 or 2005 offers a Nigerian line, and the only capture of the site between February 2005 and April 2009 (November 2008) is of its home page. No source gives a collection year. The year is a lower bound and moves if an earlier listing is found.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
  • Sequence 0001. It is the only accession of the business for this country, province segment and year.

Sourcing

The business's own pages, read from Wayback Machine captures: the menu and the Nigerian 99 and Nigerian Afghan pages of 13 April 2009, and the shop on afropips.com of 27 December 2010. Its description of the line on SeedFinder (https://seedfinder.eu/en/strain-info/nigerian/afropips-seeds) was read on 12 October 2026. Every statement about the line's origin, plants and aroma is the business's own account of its stock and is attributed to it.

The ACE Seeds listing of the Nigerian line it sells under the Khalifa Genetics name (https://www.aceseeds.org/en/seeds/nigeria-regular-seeds/) was read again on 12 October 2026. It says that the line "used to be part of Afropips’ seed collection", that collectors preserved it after the seedbank shut down around 2010, and that the Khalifa team acquired it in 2020; it labels its seed P4. That is ACE's account of its own stock. Khalifa Genetics' seed of the line is documented as KHA-NGA-UNK-0120090001, which names this page as its parent accession; no separate ACE Seeds accession exists, as ACE sells Khalifa's seed.

Country

The business's description names no country: it calls the line a landrace "from deepest Africa" and says that it is the original Nigerian of the Amsterdam coffee shops of the 1980s. The country is the reading of the line's name. No province is entered, and no place in Nigeria is named in any source.

Typing

  • Classification: Other. "100% Pure Landrace Sativa" and "Pure-bred, true breeding" are the business's claims and are attributed in the article.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. No source gives a chain of custody from a source population to the seed on sale.
  • Accession type is left empty: the description does not say whether the seed on sale was collected seed or a reproduction of it. The 2009 hybrid page calls the line "IBL", which the article reports as the business's word.
  • Cultivation status: Unknown. The shop on afropips.com was still online in June 2012 and the address showed a parked search page by January 2013 (see Afropips).
  • Traits. The flowering times and the aroma in the infobox are the business's own descriptions.

Figures as written

The description gives "Flowering Period: 9-11 weeks", entered as 9 and 11. The 2009 figure of "75 - 90days of 12/12" belongs to the Nigerian Afghan hybrid, and the "75 of 12/12" to Nigerian 99; neither is entered.

Source discrepancies

  • Origin. The business's description: "from deepest Africa" and the Amsterdam coffee shops of the 1980s. ACE Seeds: an "old school African Sativa" from Afropips' collection, the "Original Nigerian offered in Amsterdam Coffee shops in the 80’s". The ACE text repeats the business's own claim and is not a second witness to it.
  • Flowering time. 9 to 11 weeks (the business); 10 to 13 weeks indoors (ACE Seeds, for its P4 seed).

Georeferencing

No point is given. No source names a place in Nigeria; the country comes only from the line's name.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The listing gives nothing about the size or status of a source population.
