Maire s.n., Dongchuan is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in August of an unrecorded year from cultivated land on the plain of Tong-tchouan (Dongchuan), in Yunnan, China, at 2,500 m, by E. E. Maire. Its label describes the hemp as cultivated and subspontaneous. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet, from the herbarium of Monseigneur Léveillé, as E01459318.[1]
Collection and locality
The note, in French, reads Août. Chanvre cultivé et subspontanée, terres cultivées de la plaine à Tong-tchouan altit. 2500 m.: August, hemp cultivated and subspontaneous, in the cultivated land of the plain at Tong-tchouan, altitude 2,500 m. It is signed E.E. Maire.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries stems with dense flowering spikes and palmate leaves with long, narrow leaflets.[2] The label calls the plant chanvre, hemp, and the catalogue records Cannabis sativa L.[2][1] Maire's numbered gathering from near Yun-nan-sen is Maire 1828 (by 1906).
