EBC 43415 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa from Natal, South Africa. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew holds the sheet as EBC 43415.[1] It was given to Kew by John Medley Wood, curator of the Durban Botanic Gardens.
The record
The catalogue gives the artefact name and the parts held as Fibre prepared from stems, the plant name as 153.04 CANNABACEAE Cannabis sp, the country as South Africa, the geography description as Natal, the use as MATERIALS - Fibres with the user Man, the storage as Bottles, boxes etc and the donor as Medley Wood J. The collector, collector's number, donor number, donor date and collection date fields are all blank.[1]
The donor
John Medley Wood was curator of the Durban Botanic Gardens and founder of the herbarium that is now the KwaZulu-Natal Herbarium (NH). He gave Kew eleven South African objects. Two of them are cannabis: this fibre and a Zululand smoking pipe whose label records the isiZulu name Insangu.[1]

Kew files the object as Cannabis sp., at genus rather than species.[1]
